this isn't the normal blog
It's all down to me (Ronan, not Darragh) - a few things popped up and I lost the grip of the week
I am very sorry regular readers, there is no podcast and the only part of the blog is Captains Corner, so here you go folks
stay tuned to the facebook page or twitter to keep in touch
but I anticipate I will have a blog up on Tuesday
I haven't even run my eyes over this myself, so hopefully Darragh is not saying any bold things about me,

Aw fudge. I originally wrote this piece on a bus last
Wednesday afternoon. At that point, RvP was crocked and his stock (and price)
was sinking faster than cheeseburgers at Cheltenham. Since then, Sir Alex has
declared him fit and the masses have flocked back in droves. After over 68,000
transfers out until Thursday, over 33,000 have brought him back in at time of
writing. All this does is add further talent to a veritable bounty of captaincy
choices available to us this week. I’ll attempt, and inevitably fail, to
identify the best five possible for ya’ll.
I’ll kick off proceedings with everybody’s favorite
afro-adonis Marouane Fellaini. He actually has failed to produce a goal in 8
out of his last 9 appearances but there are strong statistical factors that are
making me lean toward the Belgian this week. Not wanting to waffle too much
about numbers, but Fellaini is second in the headed goals department this
season with 4, one behind Michu (we’ll get to him, don’t worry). This
corresponds neatly with Reading, fresh off a 3-0 whopping to Wigan, conceding
the joint largest amount of headed chances (79) so far this term (along with
QPR & Sunderland). Furthermore, the last six weeks have seen the Royals
concede the second most chances with 31, 3 behind Villa, down their oppositions
left flank which will conveniently be occupied by the cross happy Baines and versatile
Pienaar. This sinister-sided duo should provide plenty of service for Fellaini
as Everton continue to look for goals in midfield to atone for the impudence up
front.
Fresh from bowling over Bradford in the ‘insert brand name
here’ Cup, Michu earns himself segundo positiono in my list this month. As I
mentioned in that particular blog, his recession below the mean in converted
shots duly got regulated as he buried two past a beleaguered QPR back four. His
snazzy finish against the Bantams shows his resurgence toward his heady
conversion rating and I expect this continue against a Newcastle side that have
shipped at least 2 goals in 9 out of the 13 away games this season.
Furthermore, Michu’s continuing role as the front man in a four pronged attack means
he is the only true Out of Position (OoP) midfielder at the moment. His ICT
Threat rating in his last active gameweek was second only to fantasy demi-god
Gareth Bale (excluding players who played two games) but there is a slight
concern that Swansea’s season might peter out after their cup success. If the
Swans fail to put a few a few past a porous Newchâteau (not sure if I’ll ever
get sick of these French jokes) backline, it may go some ways to answering the
question.
Looking at Manchester City players this week, I was unsure
where to go. I the fixture, away to Villa, as the Villians have conceded the
largest amount of chances on the opposition left flank (34) and central
positions (32) in the last six gameweeks which has leant me toward Silva and
Yaya Toure. The latter has edged it for me for a number of reasons. 1). Toure
has scored in five games this year, in gameweeks 2 & 3, 16 & 17 and the
gameweek just gone, 27. See the pattern? Now this is straw grasping statistics
but what it nods is head to is Mancini’s preference for pushing the big Ivorian
forward in patches of the season. Last weeks outing saw Toure’s furthest
average pitch position since, you guessed it, gameweek 17. Not completely
ignoring David Silva, he topped the ICT Creativity Index and has created a goal
scoring opportunity every 25.8 minutes in the past six weeks, far better than
his nearest competitor Jack Wilshere (every 30.6 minutes). This does not bode
well for Villa and I expect to see Citeh reap serious rewards this Monday.
My final nods go to Big Ricky & Little Luis. While this
may sound like a 90’s Wham Tribute band, it’s an ode to the two of the
outstanding fantasy performers this term. Both have been neigh on fixture proof
and while Suarez has seen a late rival to his Liverpool crown, Sturrige again
appears to have a “niggle” and fails to offer the guaranteed spot the Suarez
undoubtedly gives to his fantasy owners. Wigan appear to be initiating their
annual Spring revival but Liverpool may halt this as Liverpool displayed their
potential attacking prowess last time out against a Swansea side, albeit a
weakened one.
Lambert on the other hand, has overcome some early season rotation
issues to jump slightly ahead of Christian Benteke in the season’s best budget
forward reckoning. This visit of a beleaguered and surely doomed QPR side has
seen Lambert draw over 90,000 new suitors this week thus far. Not only for this
gameweek, but for perhaps the Season, Lambert is inching towards a ‘Must Have’
status. I’m late for work so you folks will have to insert your own witty final
line here:
